Dynamics GP Inventory Bill of Materials; assembling Finished goods with labor items

We use an inventory Item with a Labor U-of-M Schedule ID as part of assemblies to capture the cost of labor hours in finished goods.

This feature within GP appears limited, and it treats the labor item as an inventory item, and withdraws the assigned cost of labor hours from inventory.  I can't see a way around this.

Is there a way in Dynamics GP 2013 to set up Bills of Material---or process an Assembly Entry---so the posting of assemblies does not draw Labor items from inventory yet still applies the cost of that labor to the finished assembly?

Or is there a suggestion for the inventory account assignment within the labor item card used in an assembly that makes a G/L posting to a particular G/L account to better capture the cost of the labor in the assembly and not screw up Inventory or the P&L reporting?
