"POWERUSER" Not Having Access to SmartList Data?

Hello:

In GP 2013 R2 (12.00.1920), why would someone who has the "POWERUSER" role not be able to see data contained in a SmartList where a person who only has sales roles can?

Granted the SmartList was created in SmartList Builder, through a SQL script referencing a third-party database.  But, that third-party product is not controlled by GP security.  It's a home-grown product created by a developer not affiliated with Microsoft Dynamics.

In fact, I created this SmartList using "sa".  But, when I login as another user who has the "POWERUSER" role, I cannot see any data in the SmartList.  Another GP user who is in sales can.
