GP 2010 Upgrade Options

Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone can make a recommendation or share a good / bad experience with an upgrade.  I'm currently running GP2010 on Windows 2003 R2 and SQL Server 2005 with 5 Users.  We want to upgrade to GP2013 at least but I would like to make other changes at the same time so here is where we are now...

Microsoft Hyper-V vm running Windows 2003 R2 (SP2) Standard Edition.  SQL Server 2005 (v 9.00.5069.00) Standard Edition.  GP 2010 (v 11.00.1752 (SP2)) {Dexterity 11.00.0349.000; Management Reporter 2.0.1700.66; Integration Manager 11.00.1767}

For obvious reasons I need to do some upgrades and where I would like to be is ...

Microsoft Hyper-V VM running Windows 2012 R2; SQL Server 2012; GP 2013

I'm open to recommendation for later versions of OS / SQL Server / GP suite based on availability and lack of horror stories.

QUESTION:  What is the best way to get there?

My first thought was to set up the VM with the stack outlined above and then "import" the database.  Is that a viable option or should I try another path?

I'm a network/computer/server guy with a couple years experience as a very basic DBM - and I plan on having our GP consultant assist.

Thought's?  and Thank You very much fro even reading this.
